What is Mold?

Mold is a fungus that causes organic material to decay. Mold thrives in moist, humid conditions. Mold flourishes on many types of building materials and can grow in various hidden surfaces such as the back of dry wall, wallpaper, or paneling, ceiling tiles, under carpets and pads and other areas. Some of the noticeable signs of mold are musty odors and discoloration. Mold can start to grow in as little as 48 hours, which is why a quick reaction is crucial. It can release airborne spores, mytoxins and can cause severe headaches, allergies, asthma, rashes and other health problems. Mold can grow in both outdoors and indoors. It is important to try to keep the mold levels on the inside of structure lower than the mold levels on the outside of the structure.
